"El Rinconcillo" Gathering
This establishment, full of tradition and history, housed between 1915 and 1929 the famous literary gathering named “El Rinconcillo”, whose members included the most renowned intellectuals, politicians and artists of the time, such as Federico García Lorca, his brother Francisco, Manuel de Falla and a very young Andrés Segovia, among others; undoubtedly, a unique generation.
Now, this Grenada’s essence is still alive in Chikito, as it is reflected on its motto “El arte de hacer amigos (The art of making friends)”.
Since the 26th February 2015, a life-size statue of Lorca presides the corner (“Rinconcillo”) of the Alameda Café, now Chikito Restaurant; paying tribute to the figure of this poet from Grenada and his presence at the well-known literary gathering.
The statue was a project of Luis Oruezábal (who was declared an adopted son of the city in 2015), that aimed to recall the spirit of the Alameda Café, located in which is now the emblematic Chikito restaurant, and to pay tribute to the literary gathering “El Rinconcillo”.
Luis felt “responsible” of maintaining in his establishment the living track of those personalities that made Grenada an artistic reference in the Spain of the 20s and 30s.
The mayor of Grenada, José Torres Hurtado, and the sculptor José Castro unveiled the statue and, before the audience, it appeared the figure of Federico García Lorca, which makes Chikito restaurant a reference when remembering those gatherings of the past century.
